10 Tips for the Best Drive-Thru Safari Experience in Texas

Young,Caucasian,Man,Looking,At,Animals,Through,Binoculars,Isolated,On

You’re cruising through the heart of Texas, but on top of tumbleweeds and longhorns, you’re face-to-face with zebras, white bison, and ostriches. Welcome to Buena Vista Wildlife Safari & RV Park, where the African savanna meets the Lone Star State!

If you’re ready to embark on a wild adventure without leaving your car (or the country), buckle up and get ready for the ride of your life.

Planning a first safari adventure can easily weigh on a parent planning the perfect trip. We’ve helped you and rounded up 10 essential tips to ensure your drive-thru safari experience is spectacular. So grab your binoculars, crank up the AC, and let’s turn your Texas safari trip into a roaring success!

1. Time Your Visit Right

Buena Vista Safari & RV Park is open year-round. There is no “bad” time to visit our exotic animals. However, we suggest scheduling your safari for early morning or late afternoon, when the animals are most active, to ensure you get a glimpse of your favorite creatures.

2. Prepare Your Vehicle

Driving on a self-guided safari tour means you may hit some bumps in the road. While you don’t have to have an off-road vehicle to navigate the park, it’s best to know your vehicle is in peak driving condition. Before your visit, check your oil, tire, and pressure, and fill up your tank for an unforgettable adventure.

3. Pack the Essentials

Our safari park is 250 acres; we don’t rush you through. You could be “out in the wild” for a while, so you want to ensure you have some essentials packed. Have water and snacks ready, especially if you bring younger children to the safari park for the first time.

4. Follow the Safari Park Rules

Safety for our guests and animals is our top priority. We have several rules in place to help you enjoy your safari experience. Please remember to monitor your children, remain in your vehicle for the duration of the journey, and to not feed the animals food from your being.

If you have any questions about our rules, contact us to learn more about our quality and safety standards.

5. Be Patient

Even though our animals live in a natural preserve, they’re still wild animals. They aren’t set to perform on a schedule and won’t always be out when you want to see them. To make the most of your visit, take your time driving and be patient when trying to spot your favorite critters.

6. Get Familiar With Our Animals

We want you to meet all of our animals. But to really make the most of your time, we suggest getting familiar with them ahead of time. Learn about the history of the American White Bison and what makes the Scimitar-Horned Oryx so special. Knowing more about our animals can help you appreciate your up-close and personal interactions with them.

7. Respect the Animals

Unless you’re in a feeding zone like our petting zoo, please keep our animals safe and not feed them from your vehicle. Also, we ask that you respect our animals by avoiding honking and speeding through our safari park.

8. Have Your Cameras Ready

Whether riding heavy with a professional camera or taking pictures from your smartphone, make sure your batteries are charged and ready for use. Having your cameras ready helps you make lasting memories you and your family can fondly reflect on for years.

9. Bring Cash

Some safari parks like ours offer animal feed and have a supply store where you can pick up any snacks or water you may have forgotten. Having a little cash on hand is always a bonus in these situations.

10. Plan to Stay the Night

Your fun time with us doesn’t have to end when your safari does. We also have an expansive RV park on the property that gives you access to the action surrounding our park in Evant. Whether you have an RV or want to rent out one of our famed cabins, there is always a place for you to stay and keep the fun rolling at Buena Vista.
