Experience the 2024 Solar Eclipse Amidst the Wildlife

Solar Eclipse

Buena Vista Wildlife Safari & RV Park offers a fantastic opportunity to combine the thrill of a wildlife adventure with the celestial phenomenon of a solar eclipse. Evant Texas lies within the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, making our safari park a prime viewing location.

While the eclipse itself is the star of the show, Buena Vista Wildlife Safari adds layers of excitement and comfort to the experience.

Lodging for Your Eclipse Getaway

Buena Vista has lodging choices to suit your taste and make your eclipse weekend a true getaway:

RV Park

Our spacious RV park boasts full hookups, level sites, concrete patios, and picnic tables. It’s a perfect basecamp for those who love the RV lifestyle.

Cozy Cabins

If you prefer a bit more structure, our three charming cabins offer comfortable accommodations, ideal for couples or small families.

Bunkhouse

The Bunkhouse is a fun option for adventurers and groups, with plenty of room for everyone to gather and share in the excitement.

But the amenities don’t stop there! Our park also features a gift shop, a petting zoo, a playground for the kiddos, and more — everything to make your trip enjoyable and memorable.

Safely Viewing the Solar Eclipse

Solar eclipses are awe-inspiring events, but protecting your eyes is paramount. The sun’s rays are incredibly powerful and can cause permanent eye damage if you look directly at it, even during an eclipse.  Here’s how to enjoy this celestial spectacle without risking your eyesight:

Essential Equipment

  • Certified Solar Eclipse Glasses: These specially designed glasses have filters that block out harmful solar radiation. Ensure the glasses you purchase are ISO 12312-2 certified and free from any defects like scratches or punctures.
  • Handheld Solar Viewers: Similar to eclipse glasses, these viewers also have safe solar filters built in.

Never Use: Regular sunglasses, binoculars, telescopes or cameras without proper solar filters. These items will NOT protect your eyes.

Direct Viewing with Protection

If you want to watch the eclipse directly, always use your eclipse glasses or solar viewer. Put them on before looking at the sun and only remove them during the brief totality phase (if applicable).

Pinhole Projection

This is a fun and easy way to enjoy the eclipse without looking directly at the sun:

  1. Poke a small hole in a piece of cardboard.
  2. Hold it up with the sun at your back.
  3. Let the sunlight pass through the hole, projecting an image of the eclipse onto another surface (like another piece of cardboard or the ground).

Totality (The Only Safe Time to Look)

Totality is the brief period of a total solar eclipse when the moon completely covers the sun’s disk. Only during totality is it safe to remove your eye protection.

Be vigilant! As soon as the totality ends and the slightest sliver of the sun peeks out, immediately put your eclipse glasses or viewer back on.

Your Perfect Eclipse Destination

Witnessing a total solar eclipse is a bucket-list event, and combining it with a wildlife adventure at Buena Vista Wildlife Safari & RV Park elevates it to an unforgettable experience. Our comfortable lodging, friendly atmosphere, and wildlife park can take your eclipse experience to the next level.
